Funding improves visitors experiences.
We curated this list of grants to support interpretive signage, nature journals, and other visitor engagement programs. We hope it’s a helpful resource, but of course we can’t guarantee funding availability or eligibility.
National & Multi-State Grants
NOAA B-WET (Bay Watershed Education & Training): Supports Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences in seven U.S. regions. Great for journals, activity sheets, and field-based programs.
USDA Forest Service – Urban & Community Forestry: Supports urban tree planting and engagement. Great for enhancing urban forests and the tree signage that shares their stories.
NRPA – Current Grant Opportunities: National Recreation & Park Association aggregator for park and recreation grants.
American Trails Trail Capacity Program: With the focus on accessibility and inclusion, this could be a good outlet for bilingual trail signage or bronze tactile elements.
National Environmental Education Foundation—”NEEF mobilizes public and private funding to support community-based projects and respond to critical and emerging needs in K-12 education, conservation, and health.”
NFWF – Five Star & Urban Waters Restoration: Funds habitat restoration and stewardship projects requiring education/outreach. Great for trailhead signs and youth journals.
IMLS – Museums for America & Inspire. Funds interpretation, exhibitions, and public programs. Great for interpretive signage, tactile elements, and journals.
Regional and State Grants
Colorado—Outdoor Equity Grant Program “The Colorado Outdoor Equity Grant Program (OEGP) funds organizations and projects that improve access, representation, meaningful participation, and quality experiences for youth and their families in the Colorado outdoors.”
Texas—Community Outdoor Outreach Program (CO-OP): Funds outdoor education/recreation for underserved communities. Supports supplies like journals and nature checklists.
Texas—The Texas Children in Nature Network grant resources. A great collection of nature engagement grants sorted by closing dates.
